Krabi
Krabi is one of the top tourist destinations in Thailand, thanks to the countless visitors who flock to enjoy to the breathtaking scenery, stunning coastline, charming fishing villages, picture perfect islands and an array of National Parks. It is hardly surprising that Krabi is often dubbed a ‘tourists paradise’! There is so much to explore, that every visitor leaves with a lifetime’s supply of colorful memories. Home to the Diamond Cave on Railay beach, with its community of bats and a curious display of stalactites and stalagmites, and the Klong Thom Hot Springs, found in the lush forests of the Khoa Phra Bang Khram Natural Reserve, Krabi boasts some of Thailand’s best known tourist attractions.
But it is the white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and flourishing coral reefs of the beautiful islands, such as Ko Lanta and Koh Ngai that make Krabi such a cherished holiday destination. And then there are the graceful Krabi hotels and the luxury Krabi resorts that are themselves a real draw, attracting more tourists to Krabi than anywhere else in Thailand! Vibrant and diverse, Krabi truly lives up to a reputation for being the ‘the epitome of natural elegance’.
Ao Nang
Ao Nang is the main tourist hub in the Krabi area, with a more international flavor than the traditional Krabi town. Situated only 20 km from Krabi, it has been flourishing in recent months with the arrival of large, up-market resorts to complement the more humble backpacker style accommodations it has been well known for.
Ao Nang is very easy to navigate through; it consists of 3 roads in a ‘U’ shape off of Route 4034 from Krabi. Approaching from the Krabi area, the road becomes busy with street vendors selling all sorts of delicious food – you know you’re getting close when you can smell BBQ chicken! Dive shops and motorcycle rental places announce your arrival to the beach road, where it all happens. Most restaurants, bars and shops operate on this strip and you will find ATMs and tuk tuks every few meters. There are also a few pharmacies here that can dispense the usual remedies as well as some prescription busiest roads in Ao Nang so please take care when crossing over. Be advised that the zebra crossings you see are rarely acknowledged, so don’t assume that traffic will stop for you as soon as you start to cross on them. Longtail boats to pretty much anywhere you like to leave from here also. You will find prominent booths at either and of the road where you can buy your tickets to Railay, Poda, Hong, etc for a fixed price – no more haggling with the driver! The long tail boat drivers wait until they have enough people to fill their boat before leaving, so be prepared fo a wait if things are quiet. In theory they should only take 8 people at a time, but sometimes this can be more. In high season, they leave fairly regularly.

Koh Jum and Koh Siboya
Koh Jum, also known as Koh Pu, named after the 420 meter high mountain in the island’s rugged north is situated halfway between Krabi and Koh Lanta Yai, 25 km from Krabi Town. A large Muslim populated sub-district of Krabi, Koh Jum is home to 1,500 inhabitants in three tiny fishing villages. The population engages mostly in fishing, rubber plantation, casuarinas and nipa-palms the string of beaches on the west coast has several simple, wooden bungalow resorts and one resort community o f private beach homes, sitting among the palms, each offering sunset views over the silhouettes of the Koh Phi Phi archipelago. Nature is at your feet there, and if it’s serenity you’re after, you can’t go wrong. Electricity just arrived in Koh Jum this year; some smaller resorts are still powered by generator. There is a ferry terminal about 35 – 40 km south of Krabi town, in a place called Laem Kruat, that can take you to the islands, although it can be tricky to pin down exactly when it will leave, and the last one departs at around 3pm. It costs around 50 Baht per person. Another option is to take a ferry directly from Krabi or Koh Lanta. This might be and easier and more reliable option from most people. Again, a short stop into your nearest travel agent will furnish you with the latest times a dtickets for your journey. Had Yao or Long Beach
Had Yao or Long Beach is Krabi’s next big thing, set for major development. Located across the river to the southeast of Krabi Town, this large and almost completely flat peninsula has a 10 kilometer long beach and I s just 25 minutes from Krabi’s international airport and 40 minutes from Krabi Town and Ao Nang. Up to recent years, Had Yao was a rather poor, underdeveloped and isolated area with a very low population of peaceful local fishermen communities concentrated in a few scattered villages, and some rubber and oil palm plantations. Longtail boat building used to be one of the major activities of locals. The area is still naturally unspoiled and provides an excellent gateway break for those who seek ultimate relaxation in tranquility. Had Yao beach sand is brown-grey and perhaps not so appealing, but it is a great beach for families with kids since the water is very shallow for a long way out. Great for those morning walks! The views are excellent, facing Phi Phi Island to the west and the mountains around Railay to the north. Source: Krabi Mini Guide (Krabi Magazine)

Krabi Town
The picturesque town of Krabi is usually a transport hub of travelers on their way to places such as Ao Nang, Koh Lanta, Puhuket and other places in the South of Thailand. The main bus station is located here, and you will undoubtedly pass through Krabi Town on your way to anywhere you want to go. It is a charming town, with a more 'local' feel to it than perhaps the tourist areas of Ao Nang. There are good restaurants and bars here, but they might not be as obvious to come across. The accommodation in Krabi will be cheaper, as will the food, especially if you eat at the local markets. The people are genuinely friendly and helpful and with the new addition of maps located on prominent stands on the pavement, it is easier to find your way around. The best way to explore the town is to just start walking and see what you can find. Sooner of later, I always seem to end up back where I started!
